  • OLYMPICS FEVER

    {Image from londoncallingloudly.blogspot.com}

    So after weeks of cynicism, as soon as they arrived, I caught Olympic fever. I almost cried when Becky Adlington won her Bronze, cheered when Pendleton fought for her silver and I was a nervous wreck whenever Tom Daley dived. I got extremely cross at the BBC sport presenters offering ridiculous condolences to athletes who achieved silver but didn't win Gold. I have a huge crush on USA Olympic swimmer Matt Grevers and on Team GB Gold Medal long-jumper Greg Rutherford. Jess Ennis fills me with pride, the Paralympians amaze me and the medal count sent me into a frenzy. I have no idea what I'll do now it's over.

    I've even attended an Olympics themed party (dressed as a gold medal in a TFNC gold sequin dress) for which I baked Olympic themed cup-cakes with help from my wonderful mother. How cute are the Topshop cake-toppers and cup-cake cases?! I sprinkled them with golden glitter and gold stars and they were good to go.

    I've been drooling over the Olympics themed nails on WAH nails's instagram.

    And I've even had a go at it myself...

    In preparation for...The London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony and the Paralympics Opening Ceremony!

    I was blown away by both. The closing ceremony was a whirlwind of British talent, I'm still reeling from seeing Queen and the Spice Girls perform in one night. I was also the only person in my block of seats to stand up, dance and sing a-long to One Direction (still trying to cling to my teenage years..!) The highlight for me was the giant inflatable Octopus containing Fatboy Slim which emerged from Russell Brand's psychedelic VW van. Paralympics Opening Ceremony was a masterpiece, and it was particularly moving for me to see Professor Stephen Hawking in the flesh. I'm in awe of the man; he has a debilitating disease, the effects of which I know of first hand in my family, yet he is still the most intelligent and astonishing man on the planet. What a role model for people with disabilities. The theme of the show seemed to be human discovery; extracts from Shakespeare's The Tempest (performed by Ian McKellan - one of my favourite actors) and allusions to Isaac Newton, the Higgs Boson particle and other scientific advances. It was non-stop visual stimulation, and the stories from various Paralympians were heart-wrenching yet amazingly inspirational.

    My new personal mantra from Stephen Hawking:

     "Look up at the stars and not down at your feet"
