As well as not being able to stop singing along to the song, I love the styling in Marina and the Diamonds new music video 'Primadonna'. There's a great mix of 50's American retro, baby pink and pastel colours, and a certain je ne sais quois that only Agent Provocateur can provide. The bold, theatrical make-up Marina wears and her striking Barbie-blonde hair and dark roots add to the dramatic feel of the video, set in a huge deserted mansion and filmed in Copenhagen. I love Marina's dark brows and the use of feathery false eyelashes on her lower lash line, as well as glossy lips and a cute heart beauty spot to create a doll-like look. Two-tone hair has become increasingly popular with high fashion houses and celebrities alike, and Marina's looks like she's just had a salon blow-dry. The tightly roll-curled hair in other scenes and the 80's feel of the organza skater skirts and lacy negligees is an homage to the ultimate primadonna - Madonna, with an essence of screen legend Marilyn Monroe. Like this icon, Marina reinvents herself and her style continuously and has her own unique sound: the theatricality of her voice and music is represented in her videos.
'Primadonna' was directed by Casper Balslev and styled by Celestine Cooney, assisted by Madeline Ostley. Find more of Cooney's beautiful work here and her blog here. I was surprised to find out that most of the clothes used in the video are from high street stores like Beyond Retro and Topshop, with shoes from Kurt Geiger and Agent Provocateur. The slinky bright pink dress Marina wears whilst draping herself over the piano is actually from the Topshop Unique SS2012 collection, but looks like something straight out of an 80's glamour magazine.
To get a similar, less in-your-face look, try this shimmery Topshop skater dress paired with these divine lilac River Island slingback court shoes and a smattering of pearls and chiffon from Forever 21. Watch the youtube video here.

The general feel of the video is decadence, which of course fits in with the meaning of the song
"I'M A PRIMADONNA GIRL, YEAH
ALL I EVER WANTED WAS THE WORLD"
ALL I EVER WANTED WAS THE WORLD"
