Constant revision is starting to make me day-dream...of baking. I'm hankering after something refined and delicate. Cue thoughts of a pretty pink tea room in the heart of Belgravia...
Peggy Porschen is a baker to the stars, making devine wedding and celebration cakes for the likes of Elton John, Kate Moss and Jamie Hince, Sting and Trudie Styler, Damien Hirst, Madonna and Gweneth Paltrow. In Autumn 2010, this German cake connoisseur opened a cake 'parlour' in Belgravia for us mere mortals to enjoy her delectable delights. The parlour serves delicate cupcakes in flavours like lemon, salted caramel, banoffee and chocolate, a range of floral and exotic teas, iced biscuits, and for the diet conscious, 50 calorie blueberry muffins. The shop is also home to a bespoke bridal service, creating towering sugared masterpieces adorned with intricate roses and cherubs made from the sweet stuff. Decorated in shades of pink and white with pretty little tables, 'Peggy Porschen' crockery, and with examples of sugar craft magic and bouquets of fresh flowers surrounding you, this parlour feels like a girly oasis in the heart of London. Porschen also opened a Cake Academy a few doors down in 2011, offering baking and sugar craft masterclasses (the cost of which may require you to live frugally for a year or two). But to be honest, if it meant I could create cakes like Peggy's at home, I wouldn't mind too much.
